On 11th and 12th November, the Third International Symposium of deep foundations was held in Mexico City that, this year, had as its theme deep foundations and consolidation techniques in soft soils that are typical of the underground metropolitan area in Mexico City.
Four bodies have contributed to the organization of the congress: the Mexican Society for Geotechnical Engineering (SMIG), the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), the Geo-Institute of ASCE and the Technical Committee TC-214 (Foundations Engineering for Difficult Soft Soil Conditions, part of SMIG).
Soilmec was present with a photographic stand and a SM-14 rig displayed at the entrance of the College of Civil Engineers of Mexico, where the event took place.
At the end of the congress, the SM-14 rig will be delivered to the customer PIMOSA, who allowed us to expose the rig at the exhibition, before receiving it at the construction site of a building in Mexico City, where it will carry out 4" tie rods at a depth of 18 meters.
Two Soilmec articles are on the Congress’ records; both articles are included in the presentations of the first day of the Conference: "The use of Displacement piling technology in soft soil conditions" (Marinucci-Chiarabelli) and "The use of Micropiles technology in soft soil conditions" (Pagliacci).
The two days were attended by over 200 professionals, reflecting the importance attributed to the topics discussed.
