SC-135 Tiger

SC-135 HD Tiger in action on Galataport Project

The new SC-135 HD Tiger is involved in the ground foundation works of the Galataport project. The Istanbul Salipazari Port Area, commonly known as Galataport, has up to 1,200 meters of coastline and covers an area of approximately 100,000 square meters with a construction area of 151,66 square meters. Existing buildings will be harmoniously renovated, maintaining their authentic forms, but acquiring new functions.

The project involves the construction of a modern terminal for cruise ships, a promenade by the coastline that has been closed to public for nearly 200 years, the reconfiguration of Tophane square, the restoration of historical buildings and the redevelopment of the Salipazari section of the port area.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of an underground cruise port terminal, for which the whole 65,000 m2 site needs excavating to depths of approximately 15 m below ground level (13 m below sea level).

The ground surface on top of the terminal will be designated for a public square, a seaside promenade and walking paths.

The related foundation works foresee the execution of a 1,200 mm thick diaphragm wall excavated to a maximum depth of 32 m for a total of 50,000 m2 of diaphragms executed by the hydromill SC-135 HD Tiger, and the related ground anchors totaling 30,000 m. In addition to these, there is soil improvement by vibro-replacement and TurboJet, a foundation composed of bored piles and the implementation of a dewatering system for the whole site.

The ground geology is characterized by the presence of fill soil for the first 3,5 m, followed by alluvial silt and sand for approximately 10 m, then clay up to 20 m deep, ending with greywacke rock to the bottom. In summary, the new Soilmec hydromill SC-135 HD Tiger equipped with SH-40 cutting module guarantees high performance, no matter how complex the project.
